Global positioning system or the GPS is a technology gaining popularity in the recent years due to the benefits it can give in providing real time location of something or someone you are tracking. GPS is also useful for navigation and many standalone GPS devices are slowly being integrated with cell phones or tablets.
GPS started as a technology in the military as they track down their enemies with the help from navigational and space satellites. With this system, they are able to locate their enemy without having to spy them. Nowadays, this same technology is used by the civilians in different settings such as business, scientific researches, ordinary life or the sole purpose of tracking something or someone. The system works with the help of GPS tracking devices that will be attached to the object to be tracked and a detecting or receiving device of the one who will do the tracking. The GPS tracking device will transmit signal passively or actively to the one tracking it to the satellite above the earth and then transmit it to the machine or software reading the signal. Passive tracking provides time-based data while active tracking provides real time location of the object being tracked.
